Project Highlights

BSA provides health and safety consulting services for the City's 14 departments, including: 1) review of policies/programs/procedures; 2) on-site observations and safe work recommendations; 3) communications (observation cards, surveys, accountability checklists); 4) assistance with program development (e.g., confined space, lockout/tagout, trenching & excavation, chemical management, electrical safety, fall protection, hearing conservation); 5) customized training (e.g., incident investigation for supervisors). BSA has also performed HSMS audits and OSHA compliance assessments within each department; update audits will occur in 2019 for each department.

BSA provides health and safety consulting and training services including: program audits; policy/program review; confined space/lockout tagout program audits; incident investigation; industrial hygiene monitoring; silica program development; management system implementation; OSHA 30 Hour General Industry course; HAZWOPER 24 Hour classes.

BSA conducted an EHS regulatory compliance audit of the Littleton, CO facility, which manufactures credit cards and plastic gift cards. The scope of the audit was to determine compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), OSHA General Industry regulations (29 CFR 1910), and U.S. Dept. of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials regulations. The BSA Audit Team focused on the three types of printing processes and production areas: offset (lithography) printing, screen printing, and digital/UV (ultraviolet light) printing. Evaluation of waste storage buildings, chemical storage areas, small water treatment operations, and outdoor areas (e.g., generators, tanks, roll-off bins, storm water drainage) was also part of the audit. A comprehensive report of findings and recommendations was issued.

BSA conducted a three-day EHS management system and regulatory compliance audit of the Colorado Springs, CO facility, which manufactures test and measurement equipment and software. Project included evaluation of the facility's compliance with federal and state environmental, health and safety, and hazardous materials transportation regulations. The BSA Audit Team focused on the following areas: production areas (including specialized micro-electronics fabrication, etching, thin film process, wafer fabrication, allied clean room and support processes), building construction, waste storage buildings, chemical storage buildings, wastewater treatment facility, outdoor areas (e.g., generators, tanks, roll-off bins and storm water drainage). BSA issued a comprehensive report with recommendations for corrective action.

BSA conducts Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) audits and Ground Disturbance Program (GDP) audits of Enbridge's Major Projects pipeline contractors throughout the Midwest. In 2014, 14 contractors and contractor worksites were evaluated for HSMS standards, practices, and policies set by Enbridge's corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Department. Audits executed by BSA include interviews with senior and executive level management, interviews with front-line employees, review of H&S records/programs/policies and other H&S documents, conducting opening and closing conferences, jobsite recommendations for contractors, and preparation of comprehensive reports and scorecards for each auditee. In 2015, BSA has already conducted more than a dozen audits.

BSA provided supplemental environmental, health and safety (EHS) expertise to this top-15 U.S. independent oil and natural gas development company based in Denver, CO. Projects included: 1) development of corporate EHS audit protocol, 2) development and delivery of a course titled “Building an Environmental, Safety and Health Management System” for EHS managers in several states, and 3) prepare 30 customized health and safety training modules suitable for field employees and production facilities. The modules and other tasks were part of an effort to initiate a Learning Management System for all company operations.

BSA conducted a baseline assessment for OSHA compliance at three Trinidad Benham Corporation facilities in Colorado and Nebraska. Assessments included evaluation of conditions and operations in maintenance facilities, mills, warehouses, and production facilities. Compliance with OSHA General Industry regulations 29 CFR Parts 1910, 1903 (Posting of OSHA Notices), and 1904 (Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illnesses) was the focus of the assessment. BSA used visual observations, checklists, employee interviews, and review of Trinidad’s safety program documents to conduct the assessment. A comprehensive report was provided, which documented strengths, gaps, and recommendations at each facility.

In 2015, BSA will conduct a comprehensive health & safety management system assessment at 6-10 Trinidad Benham facilities and processing plants across the country.

BSA provides health and safety auditing and consulting services to insurance captives across the country. Services include conducting OSHA regulatory compliance assessments, risk assessments, loss control program analyses, workplace liability assessments (personnel and property), development of written procedures and programs, construction site observations for OSHA compliance, transportation and loading dock assessments, verbal consultation and program recommendations, and report preparation. Reports are used by Gallagher Bassett Services, Inc. to assess prospective and current captive member standings.

BSA provides health and safety consultation to attorneys and their clients, including auditing for OSHA compliance, preparing written summaries of OSHA rules, performing exposure monitoring, and providing interpretation of OSHA and MSHA regulations. In 2015, BSA is assisting Jackson Kelly with a OSHA compliance assessments and written safety programs at a confidential client work site.

BSA performs worksite health and safety observations to assess the company’s and contractors’ compliance with the OSHA General Industry and Construction Industry standards. BSA creates a cooperative team approach at each worksite, whereby Site Superintendents and BSA walk the site together to discuss best practices and compliance solutions. BSA’s approach is driven by personal communication with Site Superintendents to collectively protect workers, meet compliance, and strive for continuous improvement. Site Superintendents utilize BSA as a health and safety resource, including BSA’s summary report of worksite strengths, gaps, and recommendations.

BSA conducted EHS management systems audits for PEC’s oil and gas clients, such as Hess Corporation, Marathon Oil, and ConocoPhillips Alaska. Alaska project included auditing management systems of 15 ConocoPhillips drilling, logistics, and construction contractors in Prudhoe Bay. Hess and Marathon Oil projects included auditing multiple contractors at the Hess Gas Plant in Tioga, N.D. Duties for projects included interviewing senior and executive level management, interviewing front-line employees, reviewing client EHS documentation and behavior-based safety programs, conducting opening and closing conferences, making jobsite recommendations, and preparing comprehensive reports and scorecards for audited groups

Provide analysis of OSHA regulatory requirements and best industry practices for a workplace injury investigation conducted by PIE forensic engineers. Project included review of OSHA construction regulations (29 CFR 1926) as applied to the injury incident, and preparation of a final report that included a summary of OSHA compliance, best practices, and Braun Safety Associates’ professional opinion.

BSA is the primary contract health and safety consultant for TLI Solutions, TechLaw Solutions, Inc. and TechLaw Holdings, Inc. offices in Golden, CO and 5 other states. BSA assists all three companies with employee health and safety in office settings, data management centers, and on field projects sites. BSA writes procedures and programs for environmental remediation, construction, and investigations on U.S. Dept. of Defense military munitions sites (Army and Air Force). BSA manages the company's respiratory protection program, employee training program, regulatory compliance program, and delivers health and safety training: OSHA HAZWOPER, bloodborne pathogens, emergency preparedness, respiratory protection, and quarterly Lunch & Learns.

BSA performed a comprehensive health and safety compliance assessment for Campbell County School District 1 (CCSD) in Gillette, WY. The school district employs 1,700 full-time and part-time personnel, and services approximately 8,300 students. The district was experiencing a high rate of employee injuries and requested BSA to assess the effectiveness of CCSD’s employee health and safety program. The assessment included working with a State of Wyoming Worker Compensation representative, school district employees, administrators, and school board members. More than 50 school district employees from all levels of the organization were interviewed regarding workplace safety, including their perception of the organization's safety culture. BSA used the State of Wyoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration (WYOSHA) regulations, fundamental elements of effective health and safety program management, and best management practices (BMPs) as the basis of its assessment, analysis, and recommendations.

BSA provided various health and safety consulting services for the oil and gas division in Denver, Colorado - Gunnison Energy Corporation. BSA has developed a company health and safety manual, provided training and verbal consultation, and performed accident investigation at a remote drilling rig site in Utah.

BSA conducted a comprehensive OSHA-style inspection to determine compliance with OSHA Construction (29 CFR 1926) and OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910) regulations. Goals of the project were to: 1) identify federal OSHA standards applicable to resort operations; 2) identify OSHA training requirements applicable to the resort operations; 3) assess current resort compliance with federal OSHA standards; 4) provide written recommendations for prioritization of findings and deficiencies. Project deliverables included: 1) executive summary and written report for 13 departments with deficiency severity, prioritization, 2) comprehensive matrix of OSHA General Industry regulations applicable to resort operations, 3) comprehensive matrix of OSHA Construction Industry regulations applicable to resort operations, 4) summary of OSHA-required and other recommended training for all 13 departments, 5) photo reports for 13 departments, 6) detailed listing of OSHA training requirements, and 7) positive aspects and proactive measures in place. Project included interviewing and working closely with Corporate Counsel, resort Risk Manager, resort Safety Manager, department managers, first-line supervisors, and employees. Within one year after project completion, the resort reportedly experienced a 20% decrease in worker compensation claims.

BSA supported this client to produce customized, interactive, commercial training media that increases safe work behaviors and positively influences safety cultures. Ms. Braun updated several commercial CD programs, including the California OSHA Construction Industry CD (e.g., ladders, excavations, electrical, welding, traffic control, heat stress). BSA was responsible for integrating federal and state laws into the CD content, including California's rule changes for heat stress and excavation permits. Assisted QA/QC and editing of over 20 topics for various state and federal regulatory requirements.

BSA assisted this municipal client to develop a written Health and Safety Management Program, facilitate quarterly Safe Production Meetings, conduct confined space entry training, and provide field safety oversight as requested.

BSA conducted an ergonomics assessment of four chemical production and administrative areas at the Houston, TX facility: material handling, line work, maintenance work, and office environment. Deliverables included 1) specific written recommendations for potential ergonomic improvements for each department; 2) development of a PowerPoint and training booklet for the four operational areas; and 3) general written recommendations for further ergonomic program development.

BSA performed a comprehensive health and safety compliance assessment for this city of 86,000 residents and 1,500 employees. The purpose of the assessment was to determine the City's compliance with OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910) requirements.

Project tasks: 

1) conduct an evaluation of 10 City departments for OSHA compliance with written programs/procedures, employee training, medical surveillance, workplace inspections, and recordkeeping requirements; 

2) conduct a physical inspection of City facilities to determine compliance with OSHA General Industry rules;

3) identify OSHA-required training needed by each City departments. The project included opening and closing conferences with the City Manager, Human Resources Director, City Risk Manager, Internal Auditor, and Training Specialist. 

 

Department assessments were accomplished through employee interviews, work site and facility observations, photographs, use of checklists, and internal document review. 

Deliverables included: 

1) executive summary, 

2) findings/ deficiencies by regulatory citation, 

3) score/rating sheet with prioritization of findings/ deficiencies; and 

4) short- and long-term recommendations for the City’s Employee Health and Safety Program. The final report also highlighted positive aspects and proactive measures currently in place to manage employee health and safety. 

BSA conducted OSHA compliance inspections and prepared health and safety regulatory databases for 11 ski resorts and three (3) golf resorts throughout the United States and Canada. Databases developed for each resort were: 1) matrix of regulatory requirements applicable to the resort, 2) matrix of training requirements by employee job title, and 3) table of detailed training requirements as outlined by the regulation. Project included on-site observations and interviews at two Colorado-based Intrawest ski resorts, and one Colorado-based Intrawest golf resort. Assessments of the remaining resorts were done via teleconference. Project required knowledge of federal and state OSHA General and Construction Industry regulations, Canadian federal and provincial regulations, ski and golf business operations, and industry best practices. Project tasks included interviewing employees of all management levels at 11 resorts, working with Intrawest’s Corporate Risk and Insurance Manager, Corporate Counsel, and resort risk management. Deliverables were: 1) executive summary, 2) matrix of OSHA General Industry regulations applicable to resort operations, 3) matrix of OSHA Construction Industry regulations applicable to resort operations, 4) summary of OSHA-required and other recommended training, 5) positive aspects and proactive measures in place.

BSA was part of a team that conducted a 3-tiered health and safety audit of the San Juan, Puerto Rico National Historic Site. The 3 levels of the audit consisted of: 1) a behavior-based safety assessment, 2) a public risk and management systems audit; and 3) a comprehensive OSHA General Industry regulatory compliance audit. As the Project Team Leader and park liaison, BSA facilitated opening and closing meetings with the Park Superintendent, interviewed all levels of employees and management, inspected numerous buildings and work sites, and prepared the final written report of the audit.
