BSA provides health and safety consulting services for the City's 14 departments, including: 1) review of policies/programs/procedures; 2) on-site observations and safe work recommendations; 3) communications (observation cards, surveys, accountability checklists); 4) assistance with program development (e.g., confined space, lockout/tagout, trenching & excavation, chemical management, electrical safety, fall protection, hearing conservation); 5) customized training (e.g., incident investigation for supervisors). BSA has also performed HSMS audits and OSHA compliance assessments within each department; update audits will occur in 2019 for each department.
BSA developed and delivered a course titled "When OSHA Knocks" for EHS Team Leaders in the company's western region. Project included preparation and delivery of a customized two-hour course to help guide production facilities manage OSHA inspections, should the need arise. BSA also developed a prep packet for PDC's EHS Team Leaders to prepare for/manage an OSHA inspection.

BSA prepared and presented confined space entry training and lockout/tagout training for building maintenance employees. Courses were customized to the facility operations and written procedures the plant site.
BSA presented “Basic Electrical Safety & NFPA 70E Arc Flash Awareness Training” for Raytheon Company electrical engineers, hardware engineers and managers, health & safety staff, and others who work on or around any electrically energized equipment. The course was designed to provide non-electrical personnel with a basic understanding of: 1) NFPA 70E (basic introduction), 2) Personal safety when working on or around electrical systems and equipment, 3) how to use proper materials and procedures for doing work around electrical equipment, 4) Potential consequences for workers and others nearby if they don't follow electrical safety procedures, 5) Qualified vs. Unqualified workers, and 6) Safe approach distances to exposed electrical conductors.
BSA prepared and presented the “OSHA 24 Hour HAZWOPER Hazardous Materials Technician Course” in accordance with OSHA’s HAZWOPER Standard, 29 CFR 1910.120(q). The course was customized to the facility operations and chemicals used at the plant site. Training was designed and delivered in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(iii) and its Appendix E, Training Curriculum Guidelines.”
Provide instruction for multiple courses, including: Fundamentals of Incident Investigation-Root Cause Analysis, Job Safety Analysis, Writing Skills for the Safety Professional, and National Safety Council (NSC) courses in the Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC) program: Principles of Occupational Safety, Safety Training Methods, Safety Management Techniques, Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene. Work with MSC also includes providing health and safety consulting services to the City of Bloomington, MN Public Works Department, Silver King, Coloplast, and the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. Ms. Braun has been a featured speaker at the annual Minnesota Safety Council Conferences since 2009.
Approved instructor for courses at the OSHA Training Institute, including OSHA 511, OSHA 501, OSHA 510, OSHA 10 and 30 Hour Construction and General Industry, Recordkeeping, and OSHA HAZWOPER. Instruction also includes off-site courses, including for private corporations, military installations, government organizations, such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Nashua, NH and Atlanta, GA; National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), Boulder, CO; U.S. Air Force – Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora, CO; White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico; Tri-State Generation & Transmission.
Braun Safety Associates, LLC developed and delivered this customized class annually for approximately 200 civilian and military supervisors. The customized curriculum was developed in concert with the WSMR Chief of Safety with oversight by the installation’s Commanding Officer. It is customized to meet the U.S. Army 385-18 requirements, and local WSMR Safety Action Plan. Course is delivered to Garrison and Test Center managers, supervisors, military personnel and other staff on the base who have health and safety supervisory duties. Project includes: preparation of workbook and PowerPoint with site-specific policies and photos; integrating WSMR’s local Safety Action Plan, Army 385-18, and New Mexico OSHA regulations; familiarity with Army policies and SOHAC procedures, preparation of customized agenda, workbooks, workshops, and student certificates. High praise has been received from students, managers, safety professionals, and high-ranking military officers at WSMR for this course.
This OSHA-developed course provides federal employees with an introduction to the OSH Act, Executive Order 12196, 29 CFR 1960, and 29 CFR 1910. The curriculum, designed for collateral duty Safety Coordinators, provides students with hazard recognition skills and basic safety awareness. The goal of the training is for students to effectively assist Army to implement its Safety Action Plan and other Army health and safety directives. Course includes a mock OSHA inspection of an operational facility on the missile range (e.g., heavy equipment maintenance shop), which provides hands-on experience and practice with identifying non-compliance issues and researching regulations. To date, BSA has performed six OSHA 6000 courses at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR).
Develop, design, and present customized full-day Professional Development Courses (PDC’s) at ASSE national conferences. Courses designed and delivered include: “Effective Driver Safety and Fleet Management Program,” “Introduction to Environmental Laws,” “Preparatory Exam Study Course for Certified Hazardous Materials Managers,” and OSHA 8 Hour HAZWOPER Refresher.” Ms. Braun has also served on a symposium task force for the “ASSE Symposium on Technology, 2006” in Scottsdale, AZ.
Provide instruction for three National Safety Council (NSC) courses: Principles of Occupational Safety and Health (POSH), Safety Training Methods, Safety Management Techniques. Courses are components of the NSC’s Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC) program. Instruction of ASC classes may only be delivered by professionals who have met NSC’s progressive instructor criteria. Courses have been delivered at multiple workplaces around the nation, including Boeing, Home Depot, the Colorado Safety Association, Minnesota Safety Council, South Dakota Safety Council, Utah Safety Council, and the Nebraska Safety Council.
Development and delivery of environmental, health and safety awareness courses (2-16 hours, initial and refresher) for a total of seven (7) shipbuilding, ship repair and conversion, and submarine construction bases across the U.S. Project targeted U.S. Navy enlisted and civilian personnel responsible for environmental and safety oversight of Navy contractors. Tasks included: preparation of site-specific workbooks and multi-media course curriculums; knowledge of OSHA Maritime regulations, EPA Shipyard Special Emphasis Programs, Navy Occupational Safety and Health (NAVOSH) policies, OPNAV Instructions, NAVSEA Standard Items; design of all training manuals, agendas, workshops; delivery of all classes. Ms. Braun also was a speaker at several SUPSHIP/NAVSEA ESH Conferences around the U.S.
Development of a training manual titled “Environmental, Health and Safety Training Manual for SUPSHIPS (New Construction).” The manual was designed specifically for Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP) personnel required to identify and manage environmental and safety risks during contractor oversight of new ship and submarine construction. Training manual was designed for a 2-day class, including 10 topic chapters; OSHA, environmental and maritime safety regulations; roles and responsibilities; hazardous waste and materials management, personnel health and safety, emergency preparedness, ESH management systems, workshops, quizzes. Ms. Braun worked closely with and visited high level NAVSEA personnel in Washington D.C. to determine content and ensure quality control of the document.

Assisted development of corporate training program for a large coal-fired power plant. Worked closely with corporate personnel to develop course content, to design the student manual, and to design audiovisual presentations for power generation, transmission, and distribution crews and managers in Colorado and New Mexico.
Assisted the development of on-line training programs for a large beverage corporation. Re-designed existing course materials, customizing on-line training content to operations, making recommendations for course content, format, pace, and delivery.
Developed, delivered, and directed the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety course in English and Spanish for 500 metro Denver concrete and asphalt division employees. Curriculum included job-specific applications of safety topics for mixer and asphalt drivers, laborers, mechanics and maintenance personnel, heavy equipment operators, estimators, lab technicians, and plant managers.
Prepared and won contract to provide 8 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER refresher courses to EPA Region 8 Superfund, Operating Facilities, and Laboratory personnel. Classes were tailored to specific EPA projects, work tasks, incident trends, and EPA’s 40 hour initial course curriculum. Project included development of course manual.
Prepared and presented full-day Safety Committee Representative course. Presented quarterly safety meetings for all TOV departments; topics included fall protection, personal protective equipment, preventing slips/trips/falls, summer home safety, and chemical safety. Quarterly safety meetings were tailored to address TOV injury/illness statistics; useful handouts and take-home safety tips were developed.
Preparation, presentation and consultation for Job Safety Evaluation (JSE) and Job Safety Observation (JSO) training curriculum. Custom-designed for approximately 100 employees, the curriculum included JSE practice activities, JSO role play, and JSE Subcommittee interaction. The JSE/JSO training workbook was later posted on Marathon’s safety intranet. Training materials were uploaded into Marathon’s intranet to serve as employee resources when conducting JSE/JSO.
Presented Confined Space Entry training for utilities, water and wastewater treatment employees, and the Town of Vail Fire Department. Training included workshops at actual entry locations using entry and rescue equipment, air monitoring equipment, SCBAs, tripods, blowers, and emergency alerting devices.
Provided training during annual Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) “Safety Training Days” event. Training was provided to workers at three (3) BOR dams in western Colorado. Topics included: control of hazardous energy, personal protective equipment, hazard communication and chemical safety, air monitoring, and hazardous materials and hazardous waste handling.
